Haiti - FLASH : 18 countries ready to deploy security forces to Haiti

On Friday, December 12, 2025, Albert Ramdin, Secretary General of the Organization of American States (OAS), announced that 18 countries had pledged their readiness to deploy security forces to Haiti as part of the new Gang Supression Force (GSF) https://www.haitilibre.com/en/news-46393-haiti-flash-first-infos-on-international-contributions-to-the-gsf.html , approved by the UN Security Council to replace the Multinational Security Support Mission (MMSS) https://www.haitilibre.com/en/news-45891-haiti-flash-the-security-council-has-voted-for-the-new-gang-repression-force.html

"Eighteen countries have committed to providing forces. The key is that they all work together, according to the same rules and regulations. That’s why, [due to training], the establishment of this new force is taking so long," he explained.

The total force will consist of 5,500 personnel, primarily police officers and military personnel, Ramdin confirmed, in accordance with the roadmap developed under the auspices of the United States. African countries are leading the way in offering support, alongside Asian countries such as Sri Lanka and Bangladesh, he revealed. Some Latin American countries (which he did not name) have also expressed their willingness to contribute.

The deployment will be phased in gradually, without waiting for all countries to reach the same level of training, he specified, adding, "I think the first 1,000 troops will leave soon, if all goes well in January."

"Approximately half of the 5,500 personnel are expected to be deployed by April 1st, the date on which the United Nations Support Office in Haiti (BANUH) will become operational."

"The goal is to act quickly, to mitigate the impact of the gangs, to fight them, but also to capture their leaders, imprison them [...] or neutralize them."

Should be noted that Kenya deployed a fifth contingent of police officers this week to relieve those whose mission had ended and to provide reinforcements to maintain pressure on the gangs. https://www.haitilibre.com/en/news-46379-haiti-flash-kenyan-reinforcements-have-arrived-in-port-au-prince-video.html
