Since the beginning of this year, Stéphanie Balmir Villedrouin, the Minister of Tourism multiplies the interventions to make of the vision of President Martelly a reality, in order that Haiti become the next tourist attraction of the island of Hispaniola.

January 6 :

In order to develop the site of Saut d'Eau for the patronal feasts, the Minister met with Senator Simon Dieuseul Desras (center) and his wife.

The same day, U.S. Ambassador to Haiti, Kenneth Marten went to the Ministry of Tourism, to meet with Stéphanie Balmir Villedrouin, about the action plan of the Minister and of the International airports planned in Jacmel and Les Cayes

January 8 :

The Minister visited many historical places of interest in Jacmel, including: The manor Alexandra, the former town hall and the hotel "La Jacmelienne." According to some informations, the government would be interested in the purchase and rehabilitation of the hotel "La Jacmelienne"

January 10 :

Mr. Tellin representative of the Institute of Tourism and Hotel Quebec (ITHQ) made a first visit of the site of hotel school and took the opportunity to meet the new teachers and prepare the rrival of the Director Ms. Daoust which will be in Haiti in March.

That same day, the Minister at a meeting with representatives of airlines discussed among other topics :

- The new functioning of the airport

- The new Duty Free

- The new departure lounge

- Tourist tax of $10 U.S.

- The development of the airport in Jacmel and Les Cayes

- A new air route from Fort Lauderdale to Jacmel (coming soon)

- The hospitality training at the level of airlines

- The training center in Tourism trades

January 11 :

Stéphanie Balmir Villedrouin received to the Ministry some Haitian artists, in order to continue to promote Haitian culture.

That same day she held a press conference about the reopening of the Institute of Hotel and Tourism Training of Haiti (Institut de Formation Hôtelière et Touristique d'Haïti - IFORHTH)

January 13 :

The Minister met representatives of the Inter American Development Bank (IDB) and the Centre for International Studies and Cooperation (CEIC) around the signing of the MoU on the management organization of the destination (North) and the effective start of the project of tourism development in the North.

There is no doubt that if our Minister of Tourism, in 2012 continues on this pace, the tourism in Haiti will start to become a reality this year... Congratulations to Stéphanie Balmir Villedrouin.
