Prime Minister of Haiti met with the President of the WB

On Monday, April 20, 2026, in Washington, D.C., Haitian Prime Minister Alix Didier Fils-Aimé met with World Bank Group President Ajay Banga to discuss Haiti's security and economic recovery priorities.

Fils-Aimé was accompanied by Foreign Minister Raina Forbin, Special Advisor Guerly Leriche, Haitian Ambassador to Washington Lionel Délatour, and economist Ludmilla Buteau Allien.

The discussions focused on the still-concerning national situation, marked by persistent gang violence, despite some security improvements, including the recapture of certain strategic areas by the Haitian National Police (PNH).

The Prime Minister advocated a comprehensive approach to the crisis, structured around three pillars: security, justice, and the creation of economic opportunities.

"Security is essential, but it must be accompanied by concrete actions to offer prospects to the population," he stated.

In this context, the Prime Minister emphasized the urgent need to create high-impact jobs, particularly for young people, as the elections approach.

He called for rapid and effective solutions, notably through labor-intensive employment programs capable of producing immediate results.

"Every job created is a direct response to violence and exclusion," he stressed.

The discussions also highlighted the need to move beyond traditional approaches, prioritizing interventions focused on impact, transparency, and wealth creation.
