The Prime Minister of Haiti is holding numerous political meetings in the United States. 22/04/2026 10:41:20
Since Monday, April 20, as part of his official visit to the USA, Haitian Prime Minister Alix Didier Fils-Aimé has been holding numerous meetings: Marco Rubio, Secretary of Stat e: As part of efforts to strengthen the partnership between Haiti and the United States for security, stabilization, and the electoral process, Fils-Aimé held a high-level meeting with U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio. The meeting focused on strengthening the strategic partnership between the two countries, supporting stabilization efforts in Haiti, and assisting the process of restoring republican and democratic order. Discussions addressed shared priorities, including strengthening national security, deploying the Gang Repression Force (FRG), consolidating institutions, preparing for free, credible, and inclusive elections, and renewing the HOPE/HELP agreements. Both sides welcomed the progress made in establishing the FRG and emphasized the need to ensure the full and rapid implementation of its mandate. Mario Díaz-Balart (Republican), Vice Chairman of the House Appropriations Committee : Prime Minister Fils-Aimé met with Mario Díaz-Balart, Vice Chairman of the U.S. House Appropriations Committee. Discussions focused on the security situation in Haiti, efforts to restore state authority, and the conditions necessary for holding credible, free, and inclusive elections. The Prime Minister stressed that security remains essential for any democratic transition and the holding of general elections. Mario Díaz-Balart reaffirmed the U.S. Congress's interest in Haiti's stability and encouraged continued efforts to restore security and strengthen democratic institutions. Senator Chuck Schumer (Democrat) : Fils-Aimé met with Senator Chuck Schumer, a long-time advocate for Temporary Protected Status (TPS) and the rights of immigrant communities. During their meeting, the Prime Minister reaffirmed the critical importance of TPS for thousands of Haitian nationals living in the United States and emphasized the need for continued attention from U.S. authorities to address the ongoing challenges in Haiti. This meeting is part of a series of diplomatic efforts to advocate for the maintenance and renewal of protections granted to the Haitian diaspora, within a still fragile humanitarian and security context. Senator Raphael Warnock : A bilateral meeting was held between the Haitian Prime Minister and Democratic Senator Raphael Warnock, who is also the senior pastor of the Ebenezer Baptist Church in Ralanta, to discuss the security situation, the country's economic and institutional priorities, and the strengthening of bilateral cooperation. Discussions also focused on economic development issues, including job creation for young people and programs to support social stability. Congressman Gregory Murphy (Republican) : The Prime Minister held a working session with Mr. Gregory Murphy to discuss Haiti's strategic priorities, including security, the economy, and the humanitarian situation. Discussions focused on the need to strengthen security through increased cooperation with international partners to create the conditions for a credible electoral process. On the economic front, discussions highlighted the importance of stability and predictability in trade programs, particularly HOPE/HELP, to preserve jobs and support the productive sector. The humanitarian situation was also addressed, with an emphasis on strengthening emergency responses and the need for sustainable solutions based on economic recovery and job creation. Kristi Noem (Republican), Special Envoy for the Shield of the Americas : Prime Minister Alix Didier Fils-Aimé and Kristi Noem, Special Envoy for the Shield of the Americas and former U.S. Secretary of Homeland Security (removed from office on March 31, 2026), discussed priorities for Haiti, including strengthening national security, consolidating institutional stability, and organizing credible, inclusive, and transparent elections. The discussions also highlighted the importance of strengthened cooperation with regional partners to effectively combat drug trafficking, transnational criminal networks, and the challenges related to irregular migration.
