Haiti - Social : The budget of the National Carnival in Les Cayes is still not known
Pierre Raymond Dumas, the Minister of Culture and Communication has sought to recall that the decision of the Head of State to make this year the National Carnival in Les Cayes, is very clear and enter "in a spirit of decentralization, in a spirit of appreciation of the South zone [...] This is the wish of the President to organize the activities in this department. Moreover, it is he who pilot this activity. As Honorary President of this committee, our role is to support the decisions of the President in his quest for another horizon for the country."

However, to a few weeks of Carnival 2012 [to be held from February 19 to 21], the budget of the Carnival, is still not known, pending the conclusion of the arbitration of the Government in progress. The Minister of Culture stressed that a very important thing "is that the large part of the budget which will be devoted for Les Cayes, once the arbitration is concluded, can really 'circulate' in Les Cayes." Regarding the amount of the budget, the Minister has remained vague, simply saying that the budget was still under discussion.

The municipality of Les Cayes had hoped funding of 150 million gourdes. Of this amount, the Government's contribution could be between 50 and 100 million gourdes, while the rest would the responsibility of corporate sponsors.

"...Carnival can not be successful if all sectors are not affected [...] it is very important to note that the private sector will be involved in a organizational, decision-making of the carnival, not only to give the money, they will assess, verify how their money will be spent..." affirmed the Minister of Culture.

For his part, Pierre Yvon Chéry, the Mayor of Les Cayes, informed that the public was enthusiastic and that several people had already put their house available to the city to house the many visitors who can not find places in the hotels. In addition, tents will be installed on the beaches to welcome those who are not able to afford accommodation.

In terms of security, Fritz Saint-Fort, the Government Commissioner announced that all measures are taken and that the number of national police will be strengthened for the occasion, adding that the parade of over 90 allegorical carts will follow a course of 3 or 4 km. For its part, the organizing committee explained that at the level of health, 7 hospitals will be available to accommodate potential victims of this massive popular demonstration.
