Haiti - Check Presentation : The Ministry of Commerce and Industry (MCI) wants to make the country a land of entrepreneurship 20/08/2026 10:33:00
On Wednesday, August 19, 2026, at the Oasis Hotel, the Ministry of Commerce and Industry (MCI) held a symbolic check presentation ceremony to beneficiaries of entrepreneurship support programs for the 2025-2026 fiscal year, aimed at strengthening the capacities of young businesses across the country. These programs included the Youth Entrepreneurship Support Program (PAPEJ), the Women's Entrepreneurship Support Program (PAEF), and the Integrated Business Development Program (PIDE), all initiated by the Ministry. Speaking at the ceremony, Prime Minister Alix Didier Fils-Aimé emphasized that, in the life of a nation, certain moments speak louder than words, reminding us that even in times of crisis, hope continues to find its way. "Behind every act of support lies a simple yet powerful message: we still believe in Haiti’s capacity to rise again through hard work," he declared, also affirming, "We will rebuild our economy !" and reiterating the Government’s determination to create an environment conducive to production, investment, and employment. "Today is one of those moments. Behind every beneficiary here, there is a story of courage,” the Prime Minister stated, reaffirming the Government’s confidence in Haiti’s ability to rise again through hard work. He noted that more than 2,500 projects had been submitted, of which 242 were selected, creating 1,440 jobs. For the Prime Minister, these figures represent much more than mere statistics: they embody the renewed hope of families and the commitment of entrepreneurs determined to contribute to the country’s economic recovery. James Monazard, the Minister of Commerce and Industry, highlighted the richness and diversity of the sectors represented among the 242 selected projects. He specifically mentioned initiatives in agro-processing, adding value to local products such as cocoa, coffee, and mangoes, as well as in crafts, technology, services, the green economy, and recycling. Addressing the beneficiaries, Monazard stated, "I reiterate, you are not alone on this journey. The Haitian government, through the Ministry of Commerce and Industry (MCI), will continue to walk alongside you and support you. We believe in your ability to grow your businesses, for yourselves, for your families, and for the entire Nation." Sandra Palémon, the Minister of Planning and External Cooperation, praised the initiative, which she considers a beacon of hope for the national economy. Serge Gabriel Colin, the Minister of Economy and Finance, welcomed this large-scale event, which he believes helps young entrepreneurs achieve their goals. The coordinator of the Women's Entrepreneurship Support Program (PAEF), Ms. Mona-Lissa Dunbar, presented the context of this initiative. According to her, this activity aims to accelerate the development of entrepreneurship in Haiti in order to contribute to the recovery of the national economy. Several beneficiaries also expressed their satisfaction and gratitude for the entrepreneurship support programs implemented by the Ministry of Commerce and Industry (MCI). At the close of the ceremony, Paulémont, the Director General of the MCI, expressed his deep gratitude to the participants for their presence at this symbolic event. According to the Director General, this ceremony goes far beyond simply presenting checks. It reflects a clear commitment to strengthening support for entrepreneurs, promoting youth employment, and fostering economic initiative, which are among the concrete priorities of public action. This initiative sends a clear message : "Investing in entrepreneurs means investing in Haiti’s capacity to recover, to produce, and to build its future." See also : HL/ S/ HaïtiLibre
