Haiti - Social : Port-au-Prince can not live without his Carnival... 06/02/2012 12:52:58 The Mayor of Port-au-Prince reported that "the carnival of Port-au-Prince will follow its traditional route" floats, disguised bands and music will leave at 2:00 pm from the Sylvio Cator stadium and will follow the rue Oswald Durand, boulevard Jean-Jacques Dessalines, street of Casernes, Avenue of the Republique, street Capois, the rue Saint-Honoré, the rue Oswald Durand and will complete the course at the Sylvio Cator stadium at midnight "A course of 5.7 km and 10 hours of partying" The Mayor that expects the participation of 1 .5 million people indicated that heavy security will be established, composed, of the town hall, Police Nationale d'Haiti (PNH), of the Secretariat of State to public security, Red Cross and camp committees. The mayor estimates the cost of the Carnival of Port au Prince to 80 million gourdes (± 1.9 million). Regarding funding he said that the mayor of Port-au-Prince will fund on its own funds to the tune of 10 million gourdes and that the government was ready to made its contribution to finance the parades of walking bands, and a part of the bands disguised... This leaves the task to the Mayor to find ± 40 million gourdes from sponsors, including for the funding of the musical floats... Kicking off of the Carnival of Port-au-Prince will be held on the grand-rue, between Portail-Léogâne and Portail-Saint Joseph, February 18, 2012. TB/ HaitiLibre
