Haiti - Culture : National Carnival in Les Cayes J-7 - Gabriel Fortuné resigns
The Delegate of South Gabriel Fortuné announced Saturday that he had presented his resignation to the presidency whose he was the representative for the Carnival. He refused to confirm whether there was a link between his departure and the problems of recent days, between local organizers and the National Committee of Port-au-Prince. The local organizers, would reproach to William Eliacin (Barbancourt) to have the absolute control over the decisions and financial management of the Carnival...

For his part, Mr. Eliacin, President of the National Committee has indicated that the companies, will invest over 100 million gourdes in the National Carnival, held this year in the city of Les Cayes from February 19 to 21, 2012 and welcomed the participation of the private sector, adding last Friday that the government had already disbursed 10 million gourdes of the 30 million gourdes (± U.S. $730.000) that the state allocated to this activity.

According to Marie May Faucan, Spokeswoman of the Organizing Committee, to one week before the Carnival, , the preparations are progressing rapidly. The houses along the route of the parade are being repainted and decorated. Nearly 40 kings and queens, more than 2,000 figurants will take part in the parade with walking bands and choreography that will provide a colorful spectacle and in music. All musical trends will be featured in the Carnival that promises to be exceptional, with the presence, among others of : Djakout Mizik, Carimi, Ram, Racine Mapou, T-vice, Kreyòl la, Mass Compas, Baricad Crew, G7, Boukman Ekperyans, RockFam, Freedom and Les Mélomanes.
