Haiti - Education : The new University Roi Henri Christophe expects its operating budget...
A little more than 2 months after the symbolic inauguration of the new modern university Roi Henri Christophe, by the Governments of Haitians and Dominicans the Haitian government has not yet started disbursing the operating budget of this University, gift of the Dominican Republic, reported earlier this week, Jean Vernet Henry, Rector of State University of Haiti (UEH).

Last Saturday, during a debate on higher education held in Port-au-Prince, the question of the future of campus of Limonade was again mentioned by some participants. "We are still waiting the official handover of the campus [...] We are still awaiting funding promised by the government," said the Rector of the UEH, adding that the project of establishment was nevertheless under development, which could mean that the disciplines will soon be known and consecutively the opening of registration.

The Secretary of State for Higher Education, stated that "The Haitian state has promised $5 million for the operating budget of this campus for the first fiscal year [...] I am reasonably optimistic that the resources promised by the Haitian government will be disbursed in time for the opening of the university in September of this year. Regarding the curriculum and the choice of courses that will be implemented in priority, he recalled to the UEH, that "he State's role is to ensure that programs of academic centers meet the international criteria [...] and not to interfere in the responsibilities and affairs of the UEH."

Recall that if some participants have all interest to point the finger the responsibility of Government for the lack of disbursement, rustrated that this University enters into the heritage of the State University of Haiti [and not private] the President Martelly was very clear by stating "To develop the school plan, a technical committee will be established immediately. It will consist of experienced academics operating in Haiti and abroad who must, within a period not exceeding four months, to validate training programs, the human, financial, technical and organizational means for the beginning of the academic year in September 2012..." So far and to our knowledge, the committee works and remains within the deadline set by the Head of State.
