Haiti - Security : Statement of Martelly on the future national security force
Saturday, the day after his return from Ecuador, the President Martelly, on a visit to Saut d'Eau, spoke on the future security force in Haiti "[...] The army is not in the agenda as if it was tomorrow morning that we were going do it, ut you already know, this will going to take time [...] we need a doctrine, establishing a clear mission no matter how you want to call it [...] if we do not have that force is like we gave to the Minustah the right to stay there for 20 years, 25 years.

The idea is not because I speak of the army today, that I must speak of the army all the time, the thing is that I must plan the departure of the MINUSTAH, it means replacing the MINUSTAH by a force of young Haitians who can do the work in its place [...]

An armed force to protect Haiti's economic interests, to defend the borders, coastline, airspace, a corps of engineers who can work at the reconstruction of the country the same way that the Ecuadorians do in Artibonite, a body of medicine ready to intervene to save lives, that's the idea [...]"
