Haiti - Politic : Council of Government, details of announcements in the Economic Sector (III)

The Prime Minister Laurent Lamothe, who led the 5th Council of Government held this Wednesday, August 8, at administrative complex of Les Cayes, said he was satisfied with the smooth running of this meeting and of the renewed commitment of the various members of his administration. We selected for you the important details of this Council and more specifically in this third article, the governmental actions in the economic sector.

ECONOMIC SECTOR :

Marie Carmelle Jean Marie, the Minister of Finance has announced a package of financial measures to support micro-credit in the South : provide family allowances and facilitate economic growth. She gave specific information about a project dear to the Prime Minister Lamothe, relating to new orientations of the Banque Populaire Haïtienne (BPH), which will expand its offers with new credit packages for small and medium enterprises.

Supporting this statement, Mr. Michael Lecorps, the Director of Monetization of Development Aid Programs (BMPAD) has announced that more than $20 million, from Petro Caribe funds, will help to establish in the South of projects that bring income and of social projects as the construction of 20 new high schools in the Department whose 8 will be completed before school starts. Are also funded the installation of 600 streetlights in the South, of new public markets to Roche à Bateau, les Anglais and the injections of capital for SMEs of Torbeck, Chardonnieres or Arniquet.

The Minister of Finance announced that she intends to finance interventions in rivers during dry periods, especially to Roche à Bateau (Rivière Rozier, 15 millions gourdes), to Coteaux, Anglais and to Port à Piment, without forgetting the Airport of Les Cayes who according to a distinguished guest (Fourcand) can only accommodate 19-seat aircraft at the moment and wishes an expansion of it to receive large aircraft.

The Prime Minister stressed that these projects will not multiply, if the companies in the South do not pay their taxes or refuse to make their tax declarations, citing the figure of 0.19% of the whole of revenue collected...

Thomas Jacques, the Minister of Agriculture, spoke about the economic recovery by exploiting the rational production of rice and corn of South on 5,000 ha irrigated and insisted on milk production of South mainly in the town of Chantal.

Dr. Michel Chancy, Secretary of State for Animal Production, highlighted the economic strength of the Haitian livestock threatened by cattle traffickers around the country, especially in the South. He noted that there are 100.000 head of cattle in the South and 1.3 million cattle across the country, which reported $ 500 million to Haiti, including $200 million in meat trade. Stressing that 15% of goat meat are sold in the Dominican Republic. He wants to secure the livestock and poultry against trafficking networks.

Wilson Laleau, he Minister of Commerce intervened on his side to insist on the employment generator of income and the idea of "put the public administration at the service of private sector". To this end he plans to organize a census of businesses in the South and of agricultural activities, create a Centre of Business development, enhance domestic production by industrial networks of transformation of food such as the "lam veritab" and facilitate the economic recovery.
