Haiti - Justice : Me Dilia Lemaire resigns of CSPJ

Me Dilia Lemaire, the representative of the human rights sector to the Superior Council of Judicial Power (CSPJ) sent her letter of resignation, as a sign of protest against the arbitrary designation, by a minority vote, of 3 representatives of CSPJ to serve on the Permanent Electoral Council.

In her letter addressed to the human rights sector, Me Lemaire explains "We must note that CSPJ, with its current presidency, is not the body that will gives to the Judicial Power the full independence prescribed by the Constitution [...] This month of work in the CSPJ, in which you have designated me, leads me to believe that our functioning will depend of the will of the Executive. As a jurist, member institutions of human rights, respectful of the law and procedure, my place is not within this Council [...]"

Pierre Espérance, Executive Director of the National Network for the Defense of Human Rights (RNDDH), confirmed that the human rights sector had received the correspondence from Me Lemaire Dilia, but that the base had not yet ruled on this resignation. "We will respond to her letter during a meeting, we will have with her, next week," adding "The resignation does not surprise us. Me Lemaire, that the sector has designated to the CSPJ s someone who respects the law. She can not be comfortable and work with people who violate their own law. The President of CSPJ had a chance to recover. But he not do it [...]"

With this resignation, the CSPJ just lost this week 2 of its 9 members...
