Haiti - Social : Voluntary return of 300 Haitians, from the Dominican Republic 20/09/2012 14:20:54
Last week, the Office of Citizen Protection (OPC) has assisted the voluntary repatriation of 300 undocumented Haitians who lived in Puerto Plata, Dominican Republic : 194 men and 106 women (adults and minors). Of these, 107 are from Ouanaminthe, 13 from Terrier Rouge, 34 of Trou du Nord, 12 of Acul du Nord, 18 of Borgne, 100 of Cap-Haitien, 12 of Limonade and 4 of Port-Margot. These repatriations, falls within the framework of a voluntary return program, implemented by the International Organization for Migration (IOM) [Dominican branch]. Arrived in Ouanaminthe aboard several buses, our compatriots were received at Paradis Night Club, where each received USD$50 of the IOM, in addition to this amount, each child received $65. According to the program, they will receive $200 subsequently over a period of two months, after having received training to enable them to start a business. As part of this program, children's schooling is provided by the IOM for a period of one year non-renewable. This voluntary repatriation operation was performed in the presence of representatives of the Police Nationale d'Haiti, of the Minustah, the U.S. Embassy, USAID and the OPC.
