Haiti - Education : Official Opening of campus Roi Henri Christophe
Friday, September 21, the President Michel Martelly has proceeded to the official opening of the Centre of Higher Education Henri Christophe of Limonade, funded by the Dominican government to the tune of 30 million U.S. dollars which will host 1,500 students (on 7,200 applicants) for the academic year 2012-2013.

The ceremony was attended by the Minister of Education, Mr. Vanneur Pierre, of Mayors of the cities of Limonade and Fort liberté, of Jean Mary Théodat, President of the Provisional Council of Management of campus of some parliamentarians, a representative of the Dominican President, Danilo Medina, a representative of former Dominican President, of Michaëlle Jean, Member of the Advisory Board od campus, of Members of the diplomatic corps and consular, of Members of the Management Committee of the campus, of a epresentative of the OIF and a representative of the AUF.

"Haiti enters into history with this university that has nothing to envy to other universities worldwide. This campus we will do it as an intellectual citadel that will not be there to defend us but rather open ourselves to the world," indicated Mr. Jean Mary Théodat, asking all other actors in the education system to not bargain their help. He promises to give the best of himself to make this campus a global benchmark.

In his speech, Michaëlle Jean, said that the youth will find the necessary tools they need to rebuild the Haiti dreamed. "The country needs skilled professionals it is an imperative for open the country for investment. To us, to you the university campus... To us, to you to make this university a reference. The adventure must be collective, since the need is collective. For us and to you to act for the good of the country."



"With the efforts made by the government, to prepare the new academic year and the budgetary envelope provided to build the dormitory, my Administration clearly shows its determination to develop public infrastructure of higher education in the country," declared the President Martelly, who says he wants a university that trains and transforms with young university students who invests in his studies and believes in the future. He believes that the country that we want to build together, needs new ideas and successful models of solidarity. And this is because "the solidarity is inseparable from the ideal of progress that the state wants the success of Campus of Limonade. My Administration recognizes the role that can be played by the higher education in the economic and social development of the country. In this sense, universities well managed and dynamics are necessary to increase our knowledge capital, enlighten our economic and social choices, giving our young people the means to develop their full creative potential and lead the nation towards a future richer and with a greater solidarity."

Built on an area of ​​144 000 m2, offered by the Dominican government, the campus Roi Henri Christophe can accommodate up to 10,000 students and includes 4 buildings totaling 72 classrooms (30 students per class). The campus also includes a modern library, meeting rooms, science laboratories, digital centers, an infirmary, an auditorium, an administrative building and sports facilities. $5 million supplementary will be invested for the construction of 5 mini-centers of technical and vocational training. The first day for the students is scheduled for October 8, 2012 [the anniversary of the death of Henri Christophe].
