Haiti - Justice : Clifford Brandt involved in an abduction case
Following the investigation opened by the Central Directorate of the Judicial Police (DCPJ), as part of the abduction, October 16 of two young Coralie [23] and Nicolas Moscoso [24] on the road of Bourdon [a family member of a Haitian entrepreneur], a major police operation involving the cell against kidnapping and homicide was initiated and led to the arrest Monday afternoon in the offices of the company Mazda [Delmas 2] of Clifford Brandt, member of a rich bourgeois family well known in Haiti. Following his interrogation, Clifford Brandt confessed and led police force, Tuesday at 3 a.m. in the morning on the scene [Pernier] where was sequestered Coralie and Nicolas, who was released, confirmed Henri François Dossou, the head of the cell anti-kidnapping of the police.

A woman who was with Clifford Brandt, at the time of arrest, and whose identity was not disclosed, was arrested. Four other individuals allegedly linked to these abductions were also arrested during the operation began Sunday. In addition, Réginald Delva, the Secretary of State for Public Security reported that "Senior police officers and former police officers, whose former inspector Edner Comé were actively sought," suspected of being part of a network of criminals that operated throughout the country.

Accused of involvement in the abduction and sequestration of Coralie and Nicolas Moscoso, Clifford Brandt, should be transferred shortly to the prosecutor of Port-au-Prince.

Tuesday, Réginald Delva stated "[...] The operation was launched since two days really, do not forget that there is a kidnapping that has been done on October 16, and a spate of kidnappings that have been made in the capital [...] the operation began really to give results from yesterday [Monday] afternoon [...] the highest level of the State has been informed of the operation minute by minute, which has initially led to the arrests of Mr. Clifford Brandt and an employee following clear data, which showed that they had involvement in these kidnapping. Which has allowed, fortunately, the release of youths who had been kidnapped on the road to Bourdon [...]

The operation is still ongoing, there is a former police inspector Mr. Edner Comé, which is currently being sought, I can give his name, because it is an individual extremely dangerous [...] all the instructions have already been placed for that at the border they closely monitor the activities [...] I just spoke with the Chief of Police, which has already mobilized its teams, because we must put a stop to this wave of kidnappings and to that network, who has many years of activity [...] We found important documents, there was a list of people that the network planned to kidnap and not the least [...] the work that is started will not stop, it will go until the end, until we find the root of this network..."

For his part, Frantz Lerebours, the Spokesman of the National Polcie of Haiti stated "[...] Yesterday the cell against the kidnapping and criminal brigade went in the company of Clifford Brandt, he arrested him, because they found his mark in the kidnapping [...] this allowed the abductees, are released quickly, because he has collaborated [...] everything is a matter of information, spinners, surveillance etc. it does not always happen like that, but that is the best method [...] we will provide other information to the press, to the extent possible, as it is a criminal investigation [...]"

Me Calixte Delatour, the lawyer of Clifford Brandt, was outraged by the lack of notification of reasons for the incarceration, recalling that in right, in Haiti a abduction is not a kidnapping [in the latter there ransom]. Me Delatour rejected all allegations that indicate any ransom demand from his client. While acknowledging that his client had acted in a wrong way in this case, he argues that Clifford Brandt, is not involved in a kidnapping, but an abduction that would be linked to a settlement of scores [between entrepreneurs].
