As part of the XXII Ibero-American Summit of Heads of State and Government, the President Michel Martelly met with the President of Panama, Ricardo Alberto Martinelli.

The two heads of state discussed of strengthening of the cooperation in the fields of culture, tourism and of development of trade relations between the two countries. They also discussed the issue of visas whose process is running, and the need for a Haitian cultural presence in Panama.

The President Martelly, suggested the sending of Panamanian trade missions in Haiti. A proposal warmly welcomed by his Panamanian counterpart, who also wanted a meeting between the two Chambers of Commerce.

In addition, the Head of State of Haiti has requested the support of Panama, whose expertise has proved efficient in establishing free trade zones. These exchanges of experiences in terms of creation of free zones and of attraction of foreign direct investment, will allow Haiti to be better positioned in the region. Ricardo Alberto Martinelli promised to work on the possibility of promoting investment between Haiti and Panama.

The President Martelly has invited the President of Panama, at the next Summit of the Association of Caribbean States (ACS) to be held in April 2013.

The possibility of a second flight Panama/Port-au-Prince was also discussed to facilitate trade between the two countries.
