Haiti - Ski : Rasta Picquet and Benoit Etoc qualified for the World Championships
Wednesday, November 28, 2012, Jean Pierre Roy (49) aka "Rasta Picquet," and Benoit Étoc (32) aka the "Rising Star" of Haitian skiing, again had an appointment with the snow of the Slalom track of Val Thorens in Savoy (France) for qualifying events organized by the International Ski Federation (FIS) for the Ski World Championship of Schladming.
"Rasta Picquet," which had yet drawn bib #6, a very good place to avoid the deterioration of the track, missed a gate in a succession...
As for Benoit Étoc following an incorrect setting of hardware, he shoes off at the second door in the first round and did not finish the race. Note that the coach of the team could not accompany them to the event, which partly explains the failure.
Far from being deterred by the incidents of the first round, bringing the project of generosity for Haiti, our two skiers Haitian, with a great moral, appeared again on the track on Friday to try to qualify.
Jean Pierre, who wore bib #97, encouraged by spectators along the route, despite a style of skiing disrupted due to the icy runway, finished 53rd [earning 44 places] and obtained his qualification, becoming the title holder, of the best Haitian skier of the world.
Benoit, bib #98, under the cheersfrom the crowd, finished 54th in his first international competition, just behind "Rasta Picquet" thus becoming the second Haitian of the international selection of the Haitian Federation of Ski and deserved his place in the final photograph and his nickname of "Rising Star".
The road towards the 2013 World Championships is now open and our two Haitians, will try to improve their performance to be ready for the big event in February 2013.
A week before leaving for Schladming, they will be the stars of the second Haitian Ski Championships to be held on 26 and 27 January 2013 in Crest-Voland (Savoie, France).
