Haiti - Diplomacy : Official Protest of Haiti against the United States and Canada

The Government of the Republic of Haiti, protested vehemently against the warnings issued by the Governments of the United States and Canada, urging their citizens to avoid Haiti as a travel destinationor to exercise extreme caution for those who live there.

The Government wants to reassure the Haitian diaspora and foreign travelers that they can visit Haiti in peace and wishes to recall, at the same time, the efforts of the Haitian authorities for, firstly strengthen the republican institutions in particular those involved in the maintenance of public peace and order and secondly, to improve the health system in Haiti which has seen a marked regression of the cholera under the chairmanship of Michel Joseph Martelly.

The Government through the adoption of the development plan 2012-2016 reiterates its commitment to increase the staff of the National Police of Haiti (PNH) of more than 50% and recalls the measures taken in the process of strengthening the police force and its veeting. These projects are supported exclusively by the international community through the Joint Commission of support to the PNH established at the Summit of June 29, 2012 are going against these "Travel warnings" recently published by the United States and Canada which are also, the largest funder of the PNH. Who of the national or international community did not applaud the dismantling of the largest network of kidnapping that led a powerful Haitian businessman thus marking the beginning of the end of this practice on the national territory ?

As paradoxical as it may seem, it is clear that these warnings are inconsistent with the progress made in the field and are definitely harmful to the image of the country at a time when the administration Martelly-Lamothe conjugates every effort to put Haiti on the international map.

The Government of the Republic requires a flat in the interventions involving the security of Haiti and reaffirms to the entire international community its strong commitment to improve the security environment in Haiti. It also wishes, among other, for the year 2013 that more investors and travelers come join the ranks of those who are taking advantage of the many benefits of the country. "Haiti is still Open for Business."
