Haiti - Economy : Laurent Lamothe talks about the creation of 6,000 jobs in Ouanaminthe
"we just concluded... a very important meeting with the owner of the Industrial Park CODEVI located in Ouanaminthe in the Northeast, which depends heavily on the Industrial Park in terms of job creation. Currently, this Industrial Park creates 7,000 jobs, and now they want to expand, they want the Haitian State participates in a partnership, that the Haitian government has also infrastructure within the Park.
You know that the efforts of the Government do, to create employment, we have the Caracol Park where already more than 2,000 jobs have been created and the CODEVI has 7,000 jobs, it is 9.000 jobs [...] for us, this is not enough, that is why we met the owner of CODEVI to watch how the State with them, are able to do a partnership to create more jobs in Ouanaminthe.
In this context there are up to 6,000 jobs, that can be created in the long term and we can start a strategy where we will create 3,000 additional jobs at the park. To do this, we ask the SONAPI to sit with CODEVI, for the Haitian State can construct more building in the park, create more jobs and make the State more beneficial, that it is today. There are also micro-park that we study to implement in the city of in Ouanaminthe, of refectories and cafeterias, for all farmers in the area can find a market [for their products], so they can better benefit from the Industrial Park [...]
It was a good meeting, we came to an agreement on the next steps [...] to be able to formalize the agreement by a signature that is not too far away.
I thank Mercedes Capellan of CODEVI, which is here, I thank the Minister of Finance, the entire investment team of the Industrial Park and the Director General of the SONAPI, who attended the meeting [...] Wewe will not stop there, this is 3,000 more jobs than we seek to create, but, it will not happen tomorrow morning [...]
It is an honor for me to receive businessmen, who have already invested in Haiti more than $ 25 million and we will also continued to seek other investors in the four corners of the country within the framework of our strategy to create jobs and fight against unemployment... and this is what we do here..."
