Haiti - Economy: Towards the creation of a national label of consumer products 22/06/2013 15:09:04 Thursday in Port-au-Prince, the international expert Ivorian Yapo Francois Ahoti, led a training session for four Technical Standards Committees : Technical Committee on Standards for Tourism (hotels and restaurants), the Technical Committee on Environmental Standards, Technical Committee on Construction & Civil Engineering Standards and Technical Committee on food standards. These committees that will be responsibleto work on the development of standards, will then strengthen the BHN. This is a Haitian National Standards Council, whose task will be to homologate the Haitian national standards. This phase of work will take time stressed Yapo Francois Ahoti "It can take 12 to 18 months to establish the first Haitian standards. Naturally, we will not reinvent the wheel. Standards exist elsewhere, we will build on what exists. It is not a question to import a standard but to adapt them to the specific realities of Haiti," announcing the establishment of a mechanism that will ensure the implementation of standards through the inspection process, but also of product certification. After this training, a step will allow to deploy the standardization process. A national label for the identification of Haitian products will be created. Friday, the Technical Committees have met at the Ministry to begin reflections on national standards in specific domains. Learn more about the BHN : Opened in December 2012, with the Metrology Laboratory, the BHN has for primary mission the establishment of regional and international standards that meet the needs andspecificities of Haiti and follow market trends. It must also ensure the dissemination of standards in order to make benefit the sectors of the advantages of their application.
