Haiti - Elections : Parliament still waiting for the draft electoral law...
Jean Tholbert Alexis, the President of the Lower House regrets that the draft electoral law, submitted to the Council of Ministers Wednesday, is still not forwarded to Parliament. He said he had confirmation of the Prime Minister, Laurent Lamothe, that the bill would be sent to Parliament on Thursday... "I do not understand why so far we have not received it."

Recall that on Wednesday, the draft electoral law containing the observations and recommendations of the Presidential Commission as well as corrections or clarifications that must be made​​, was handed to the Ministers who promised to look into this voluminous report of over 100 pages, for any changes deemed useful in order to sanction it definitely at a forthcoming Council meeting, whose date has not been set.

Pending completion of this process which will culminateby the ratification by the Parliament of the electoral law, which is expected to allow the holding of elections before the end of the year, as promised by President Martelly, Me Néhémy Joseph (Representative of the Legislative Power) and Advisor to the Transitional Council of the College Permanent Electoral (CTCEP) informed that as of Monday, August 11, the CTCEP will send teams in remote areas of the country to carry out the assessment of BED (Departmental electoral Offices) and BEC (Communal electoral Offices). These assessments will continue until August 17.

Also we learned that Friday, a meeting was held at the National Palace between President Martelly and members of CTCEP.
