Haiti - Politic : Prime Minister Lamothe in Official tour in Europe

On Monday, the Prime Minister, Laurent Lamothe, left Haiti to travel to Europe as part of an official tour in France and Belgium from 10 to 14 September 2013.

During his tour, the Head of Government must meet with his French counterpart, Prime Minister Jean-Marc Ayrault, the Belgian Federal Minister for Foreign Affairs, M. Didier J.L. Reynders, President of the European Union (EU), Herman Van Rompuy, the European Commissioner for Development, Andris Piebalgs, Commissioner for International Cooperation, Humanitarian Aid and Crisis Response, Kristalina Georgieva the Secretary General of the International Organisation of the Francophonie, Abdou Diouff and French Minister of Overseas, Mr. Victorin Lurel.

These discussions will focus in particular, on the vision of the administration Martelly relating to European aid needed to reconstruct the country, the strengthening of cooperation between the EU and Haiti and the support of the European Union to government development programs. The EU must also decide on the vote of an envelope of 400 million euros for Haiti.

During his stay in France, Prime Minister Lamothe, will discuss with the highest political authorities of the need to strengthen Haitian-French cooperation and support of France to the development of Haiti through its strategic development plan that defined key priorities of its economic development.

This tour of the Head of Government, will enable it to monitor the discussions that President Michel Martelly had initiated with donors during his European tour in November 2012.

Prime Minister Lamothe, will also take advantage of his visit to meet with representatives of the Belgian Chamber of Commerce and business leaders of the Mouvement des entreprises de France (MEDEF) in the prospect of attracting new investment in Haiti and find opportunities for the Haitian people.
