Haiti - Elections : Deadline for registration extended, the opposition stick on its positions

Thursday, according to the pre-calendar electoral, ended "in principle" the period of registration of political parties to take part in the upcoming elections. From 21 to 31 October 2013, registration period, nearly 30 political parties have registered with the College of Transient Permanent Electoral Council (CTCEP).

Among the political parties, who have confirmed their participation in the upcoming elections : "Tèt kale", the political organization of President Martelly, the Consortium of political parties close to power [group of 18 political parties, including among others UCCAD, Repons Peyizan, CLE, FRN, MDRH, which will present nationally unique candidates under the same banner] ; the Mouvement National des Citoyens (MNC)...

Emmanuel Ménard, President of CTCEP, at the request of several parties, including among others the Coalition Nationale du Centre Démocratique (CONACED), has decided to give more time to parties wishing to register and announced for this purpose, the extension of the registration period.

However the main opposition parties : PL, INITE, RDNP, PLH, PROP, Ayisyen pou Ayiti, KID, Ansanm Nou Fo grouped within the platform "Mouvement Patriotique de l’Opposition Démocratique"(MOPOD), who shunned the registration period and rejects the 2008 electoral law in force, stick on their positions. These parties seem determined not to register, without the vote of the new electoral law [which extends inter alia the mandate of the Senators of one year]. Position clearly expressed by André Victor, the Head of MOPOD that says "Even if there is an extension, we're not going to register."
