Saturday December 16, 2023, during the funeral of singer Jean Michel St-Victor, alias "Zouzoul" https://www.icihaiti.com/en/news-41178-icihaiti-obituary-jean-michel-st-victor-passed-away.html in the All Saints Catholic Church of Sunrise (Broward County, FL), Lesly Condé, Ex-Consul General of Haiti in Chicago (2004-2018), a close friend of the family, paid a vibrant tribute to this legendary artist. Tribute that we invite you to read and share.

Lesly Condé’s tribute to "Zouzoul" :

"Members of all affected families,
Compatriots and friends of Haiti,

Here we are gathered on this dark day in December to say a final farewell to a man who touched us all at one time or another, and whose work is now part of our rich artistic heritage. I am pleased to see you, who have come from everywhere to express your respect, your admiration and your unalterable gratitude to an irreplaceable legend, an authentic star of our rich artistic firmament. For my part, nothing in the world could prevent me from being here among you to pay a sincere and public tribute to Jean Michel St-Victor, our dear Zouzoul. With all my heart, I thank the family for this notable privilege, knowing that the deep feelings I express are also those of Haitian communities everywhere.

Indeed, it was in the town of Les Cayes, the town where I grew up, that I had my first contacts with Jean Michel St-Victor. I remember this respectful, humble and confident young man who visited our family every time his musical group Skah Shah played at the Marabout Nightclub which was right across the street from my mother's hotel. I felt a lot of respect and admiration for Zouzoul even before knowing that there were family ties between us.

Skah Shah has become an institution, and Zouzoul an international icon. There are voids that can never be filled. However, this singer with a melodious voice and unique charisma will be the companion of all generations. Destiny, in its inexorable impartiality, took Zouzoul at the age of 78. A huge talent is leaving. He will meet several others at the great meeting of eternity.

I extend my sincere condolences to the loved ones of the deceased, to his children, grandchildren and to the members of all the families who are left in mourning and dismay by this enormous loss.

The end always comes too quickly when we are so loved, and when we have so much love to give. But the Master of the universe is the great architect of all destinies. His will be done!

Let's ask the Lord to receive Jean Michel St-Victor, to accompany him, to protect him and to grant him an eternity of harmony, Peace and love."
