Haiti - Social : «Carnival of Flowers», D-1
"The last preparations are well underway" this is what indicated Jean Dany Pierre François, President of the Committee of "Carnival of Flowers", during an information meeting organized this Thursday, July 26 at the Press Centre of the Ministry of Culture.

According to Josette Darguste, vice-President of the Committee "The Carnival of Flowers is divided into two parts. At 3:00 pm, launch of the artistic part where Haitian art is revealed in all its glory..." Insisting on the fact that this event will project a different image of Haiti, the opportunity to admire the Haitian talent and imagination. From 7:00 pm, the musical floats will begin to make the course. All arrangements are made, for that a distance of 500 meters between the musical floats be respected to avoid the cacophony... The course – Stade Sylvio Cator, Boulevard Jacques Dessalines, Rue des Casernes, Avenue de la République et Rue St-Honoré - remains unchanged.

In addition, Mr. François, indicated that the Carnival participants will see several new features whose the presence announced by the Vice-Consul of Haiti in Miami Guy François, of the Haiti-American troop "Ti Chapo". Adding, for critics of this event, that it "is not enough to see only the expenses [...] if the event is a success and that the public and investors are satisfied, the Carnival of Flowers may be in the future a profitable investment for the country."

The President of Committee, stressed that the Ministry of Public Works had placed lids on manholes to prevent accidents and that several sections of public roads were covered with asphalt. Recalling that in terms of health, provisions have been taken: treated water will be available on the course, promised the President of committee who insisted on hand washing, in prevention of cholera.

For his part, Michelangelo Gédéon, the Chief Commissioner and Departmental Director of the National Police of Haiti, reports that more than 5,500 police officers will be mobilized to ensure the safety of participants. "No detail is left to chance [...] the General Inspection, will watch over the behavior of police officers" to avoid certain unfortunate excesses... "The area where the Carnival will take place and the strategic points outside the carnival route, will be closely monitored. Stations, which will experience a great influx of people from the province, will be under control ; as well as Toussaint Louverture airport and Terminal Guy Malary."

In a memo widely circulated, the Departmental Director of the National Police of Haiti states :

"- Are respectively prohibited on the course of the carnival festivities and its immediate surroundings, the port of firearms, sharp, blunt and all other weapons by destination ;
- The sale and consumption of beverages in glass containers ;
- The movement of vehicles, except ambulance and fire.

These measures will take effect from Saturday July 28 at 6:00 pm and will be lifted Wednesday August 1st at 10:00 am."


Friday evening, the President Martelly, as tradition dictates, received at the National Palace, the queen who will parade in Carnival of Flowers, 29, 30 and 31 July at the Champ de Mars "I am particularly impressed by the selection of queens. They are all beautiful and elegant," declared the President wearing a pink blouse, creation of a Haitian artisan.

For the Head of State, this Carnival of Flowers, that more than one critic, will attract many visitors in Haiti, and various levels of society will benefit. "It's not a waste," stressed the Head of State, "It's also a great opportunity to project a smiling image to the international, ther than the images of misery that are too often shows."

Rara bands began to invade this Saturday, several avenues of the capital. But the real carnival atmosphere, will begin Sunday at 3:00 pm.
