Haiti - Politic : Special Plans for the departments of Northwest and Grande-Anse

On Thursday, Prime Minister, Laurent Lamothe, also Minister of Planning and External Cooperation held an important working session of several hours around the implementation of Special Plans for the departments the Northwest and Great Anse including a urban renewal project of the cities of Port-de-Paix and Jérémie.

Participated among others in this important work session, the Senators Lucas Sainvil, Hyppolite Mélius Maxime Roumer, Andris Riché, the Deputy Amyot Louis François, Ralph Théano, Minister in charge of relations with Parliament, Charles Jean-Jacques, Minister of Social Affairs and Labour, Jacques Rousseau, Minister of Public Works, Marie Carmelle Rose Anne Auguste, Minister Delegate in charge of Human Right and the fight against extreme poverty, Klaus Eberwein, Director General of Economic and Social Assistance Fund (FAES) and the mayor of Port-de-Paix.

It was question of priorities and the implementation of various projects aimed at strengthening the infrastructure (roads, airports, sports grounds and public places), agriculture, environment and social to improve the living conditions of these populations.

Minister Lamothe, who noted that these departments have been too long neglected in the past 25 years, decided to take all necessary measures to facilitate an upgrade of these regions.

With respect to the Northwest, the Monitoring Committee has committed to submit by January 20, 2014, the final renovation plan of the city of Port-de-Paix and on February 15 a Comprehensive Integrated Development Plan for the Department of Northwest. An amount of $5 million additional as added for urban renovation work in progress and feasibility studies for the airport in the city of Port-de-Paix and another $5 million for Jérémie intended for the work of urban renewal.

We must clarify that the Monitoring Committee for the Northwest, which includes elected of the department is coordinated by Lucien Francoeur, Secretary General of the Prime Minister and that of Grande-Anse is coordinated by the Minister Ralph Théano. It was also decided to to establish a supervisory committee to ensure the proper execution of various projects.
