Haiti - Elections : The Club of Madrid comes help overcome the political impasse
As part of a project called "Promoting dialogue for democratic reform in Haiti", a mission of the Club of Madrid, led by Chilean President Ricardo Lagos (2000-2006), the second of six high-level to be performed over the next 18 months, will visit Haiti from April 27 to 30 to promote inclusive elections, dialogue and social cohesion.

This initiative of the Club of Madrid, in collaboration with the Inter-University Institute for Research and Development (INURED), aims to contribute to national efforts to overcome the political impasse, while promoting an inclusive dialogue to address barriers structural to the democratic reform in Haiti.

This mission will accompany the efforts of the Episcopal Conference of Haiti (CEH) to build an inclusive dialogue involving all stakeholders and political parties. It will support the holding of free, inclusive and transparent elections scheduled for October and will advocate trust among stakeholders on a number of controversial issues.

The agenda of the delegation of the Club of Madrid, includes meetings with the Prime Minister, Laurent Lamothe, the Presidents of the Senate and the Chamber of Deputies, a selection of deputies and senators and representatives of the opposition and society civil.

The Club of Madrid highlighted the experience of former President Lagos in the process of democratic transition, precious in the current Haitian context.
