Haiti - Regularisation : OAS welcomes the efforts of President Danilo Medina
At the General Assembly of the Organization of American States (OAS), convened for the 44th ordinary session in Asuncion (Paraguay), José Miguel Insulza, Secretary General of the OAS, in the presence of Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Member States whose Haitian Chancellor Duly Brutus, commended in his opening speech, the efforts made by the Dominican President Danilo Medina and the promulgation of the Law of regularization of illegal aliens living in the Dominican Republic, following the controversial decision of the Constitutional Court 168-13.

Stressing the need to seek solutions to difficulties arising from the judgment of the Constitutional Court, José Miguel Insulza said he was convinced that this regularization law paves the way for the people concerned to find a place in the Dominican society.

Note that on the ground the way towards integration in Dominican society, proves to be a true course of the combatant for Haitians. Since June 2, the date of the regularization period, more than 16,000 of our compatriots are presented in different offices, mainly in search of information. In addition to the conditions that the applicant must complete, most are unable to fulfill the first condition, which is to be legally identify because of the lack of Haitian identity (CIN, passport, birth certificate) document. An observer believes that if the Haitian government does not provide the necessary identity documents, less than 5% of Haitians may access the regularization process. https://www.haitilibre.com/en/news-10510-haiti-politic-towards-the-provision-of-identity-to-all-haitian-paperless.html

Duly Brutus in his speech made no reference to the law of regularization nor the situation of our compatriots in the neighboring Republic, sticking to the theme of the session "Development with Social Inclusion" he mostly presented the multiple achievements of the Government in Haiti, in social and economic fields. Moreover, he reiterated the desire of the Government of Haiti, to benefit from the expertise of the OAS in the organization of the forthcoming elections in Haiti.
