Haiti - Politic : Successful mission of MHAVE in Dominican Republic
As part of the launch of Project of Identification and Documentation of Immigrant Haitians (PIDIH), an official delegation of the Government of Haiti led by François Guillaume II, Minister of Haitians Living Abroad (MHAVE) conducted in the Dominican Republic from 23 to 26 June 2014 an evaluation mission of PIDIH in conjunction with the Coordination of PIDIH and ordered its implementation strategy.

The main objective of this mission, in addition to being an evaluation mission of the first phase of the implementation of PIDIH, was mainly an opportunity to clearly indicate that the Administration Martelly/Lamothe is given as responsibility, to provide all citizens with identification documents.

During his visit, the Minister Guillaume II, met several Dominican officials including : Luis Henry Peña Molina, Vice-Minister of the Presidency; José Ramón Fadul, Minister of Interior and Police & President of the National Council of Immigration; José Ricardo Taveras Blanco, Director of Immigration and Emigration; Josué Fiallo, Adviser to the Ministry of the Presidency; thge Mayor of Barahona Hector Tamborini and the Governor of the province of Barahona, Pedro Peña Rubio.

In addition, the delegation met with key leaders of the Haitian community in the Dominican Republic and found formulas of interesting partnership to advance the PIDIH.

According to the Minister Guillaume II, "this first evaluation mission of PIDIH was a real success." The Dominican Government at the highest level of the State gave its full support to realize the project PIDIH and renewed its guarantee that no form of deportation will be applied to our compatriots in irregular status during the period stipulated in the National Plan regularization of foreigners in irregular migratory situation (PNRE).

Among the highlights of this mission include:

  • That the Haitian population of Santo Domingo has received relevant information on the Programme PIDIH ;
  • That the PIDIH plans to deliver identification documents (Extract from the Archives, CIN and Passport) to nearly 300,000 Haitians in the Dominican Republic ;

  • That the month of July 2014 was selected for the official launch of PIDIH in Dominican Republic ;
  • That the City of Barahona was designated to implement the pilot project ;
