Haiti - Politic : Less than 150 Haitian regularized in the Dominican Republic !

At a press conference with Dominican journalist, the Ambassador of Haiti to the Dominican Republic Fritz Cinéas, indicated that the number of regularization documents issued to persons registered in the National Programme for Regularization of Foreigners (PNRE) initiated by the Dominican State, June 2, 2014 is extremely low and said he was very concerned about the slow process. "[...] accoring to what I know, since its inception until today, the number of regularization documents issued to Haitian migrants unfortunately not not exceed 150."

Recall in support of its concerns, that according to the Dominican authorities last October, more than 120,000 Haitian immigrants living illegally in Dominican territory, had opened a regularization file. Of these, fewer than 75,000 held certain identification documents issued by the Haitian government, but fewer than 500 applicants met all the requirements...

According to Ambassador Cinéas, Haitians who want to regularize abut on very large obstacles, to provide numerous administrative documents, they are generally not able to find, which significantly slows down the process. Citing the requirement to present a housing certificate accompanied by a Dominican witness, explaining that "The majority of Haitian citizens who have lived for ten years in the Dominican bateys do not really have any friends. So they face enormous difficulties to find a Dominican willing to testify for them."

Face this situation, Fritz Cinéas, urged the Dominican executive to extend the date of PNRE whose deadline is May 31, 2015, so that all those involved in this program may have a chance to be regularized, while saying he is aware that this decision is sovereign to the Dominican Republic.
