Haiti - Reconstruction : The Foundation of Prince Charles in troubled waters...
The Foundation "The Prince’s Foundation" of Prince Charles (England), was committed by the Haitian Government to participate in the reconstruction of downtown area of Port-au-Prince. The Foundation will provide, within the framework of this contract, proposals on the spatial organization of the perimeter declared of public utility.

The foundation, with its international experience, has already contributed in the past to reshape the city centers in often difficult conditions such as Kingston (Jamaica) and Kabul (Afghanistan). Sources close to the project, indicate that the downtown Port-au-Prince is the biggest challenge to date treated by the Foundation.

These same sources believe however, that the decision of the heir to the British throne, may involve the Foundation in "the complicated and often corrupt politic of Haiti". Concern reinforced by rumors to the effect that the government was interested in the participation of the Prince of Galles and his foundation in Haiti for political reasons. Finally, we must remember that this reconstruction is headed by Leslie Voltaire, an architect and also a candidate for president who is directly connected with Prince Charles. A reconstruction which, before it even begins, already elaborated in the trouble waters of Haitian politics.

The Prince's Foundation is working on the project with Duany Plater-Zyberk & Company, an office of architects and planners based in Miami and Washington. The foundation intends to conduct a workshop soon with Haitian professionals, landowners and representatives of the Haitian-American communities.

Recall that on September 24, Eddie Labossiere, president of the Haitian Association of Economists (Association Haïtienne des Économistes AHE), deplored the signature at the beginning of week of a contract of US$295.000 between the Haitian government and the Foundation of Prince Charles within the framework of the rebuilding of the downtown area of Port-au-Prince. Regretting that the government does not appeal to a Haitian firm.
