Haiti - Politic : Privert in favor of a quick recovery plan

Thursday at the National Palace, the de facto President Jocelerme Privert, the Prime Minister, Enex Jean-Charles and of Government ministers including François Anick Joseph (Interior), Daphnée D. Benoit Delsoin (Health) and Alta Jean-Baptiste gave a press conference to take stock of actions already taken since the passage of the hurricane Matthew.

Several international organizations and agencies, as well as friends of Haiti, have already pledged their support. Since Wednesday, the interventions began: the telephone communication system is about to be fully restored; of helicopters conducted landing zones identification operations for the delivery of aid. The Ministry of Public Works, has already found an alternative to the bridge over the river LaDigue https://www.haitilibre.com/en/news-18821-haiti-flash-the-bridge-ladigue-collapses-situation-west-pap.html and access by land to the South Department is restored; of workforce are mobilized on the road to Port-Salut and that of Jérémie, to allow circulation of service vehicles.

The representatives of the international community, given the extent of damage after the first overflight of the affected areas, intend launch a call for international solidarity after the completion of the processof assessment of the situation. All these supports will complement the various mechanisms already put in place before the passage of Matthew, at the State level, including through the Departmental Emergency Operation Centers (COUD).

The de facto President Privert, urged the various members of the Government and Haiti's partners to initiate rapid, effective and coordinated actions in meeting the needs of the population in all the affected areas. The Head of State also points out that all these steps are the first phase of relief assistance to the affected families and that it is urgent to put without delay available to affected people basic necessities products and medicine to alleviate their pain. Stressing that at the same time, we must not lose forget the medium term structuring actions that should enable to rebuild cities, houses and infrastructure damaged, to what the government is fully committed.
