Haiti - FLASH : Attempted assassination of Jean-Bertrand Aristide

Yesterday at around 2:00 in the afternoon, the motorcade of former President Jean-Bertrand Aristide, framed by two police forces vehicles (PNH and CIMO), was the subject of shooting, whose the origin is unknown. The aggression occurred at the bottom of Lalue (between Piyay Market & former Chatelain Tour), while Aristide was returning from his hearing as a witness before the investigating judge Jean Wilner Morin, in the context of the money laundering case that involves the former Commissioner of Police, Jean Anthony Nazaire https://www.haitilibre.com/en/news-20384-haiti-justice-once-again-aristide-did-not-appear-in-court.html

"shots were fired directly at the vehicle in which President Aristide was," said Ira Kurzban, a lawyer from Miami who represents Aristide, there was visible blood on the front right bumper and headlight of the vehicle, adding "Thank God no one was killed [...]"

"Aristide is unscathed, but a security guard was injured and at least one Lavalas sympathizer," said a member of the board of Famni Lavalas.

Me Mario Joseph another of Aristide's lawyers equates this aggression with an "assassination attempt" of the former President.

Judge Poyo of the Croix des Missions, made a report of bloodstains on the car of the former President.

Violent demonstrations by Aristide supporters took place in the streets of Port-au-Prince after news of their leader's assassination attempt and stone throws and clashes with police officers were reported.
