Haiti - Elections : Candidates reactions
After the publication of the final results of the first round of the elections, the 2 winning candidates, Michel Martelly and Mirlande Manigat as well the platform INITE (Jude Célestin) have expressed their reactions. Both candidates are preparing for the second round of the campaign that officially begins February 17, 2011.

Mirlande Hyppolite "Rassemblement des Démocrates Nationaux Progressistes (RDNP)" :
Speaking on a radio of the Capital, Mirlande Manigat has welcomed the qualification of Mr. Martelly "this is a good thing, it's a big step, I salute Michael Marelly" with whom she hopes discuss to establish the rules of game of the electoral campaign... "We're competitors, but we are above all actors [...] I hope that the relations between us will be competitive relationships of course, but also relations of courtesy". She regretted that percentages were not disclosed by the were not disclosed by the Provisional Electoral Council (CEP) and expects them to define her strategy. Mirlande Manigat said that she was aware that the campaign will be difficult "it's really not easy, it's something really tiring, but I have courage."

Michel Joseph Martelly "Repons peyizan" :
Accompanied by several members of his family and of his campaign team Michel Martelly in a press briefing yesterday Thursday, has said that he considers his qualification for the second round not like "a personal victory but like a victory for the majority of Haitians who have forced the authorities to respect their voice". He indicated that he had called Ms. Manigat to congratulate her and assure her that the campaign for the second round of presidential elections will be based on the confrontation of ideas. He thanked the international community to have made pressure to enforce the vote of the people...

Michel Martelly said that he was confident to win the second round, "I do not cry victory today because our victory at all, we will taste when, in 5 years, we will see all Haitian children attend school, when there will be a favorable climate for the Haitian and foreign investment" adding that in his government "the justice, education, agriculture, housing will have priority over - the small projects of the presidency -".

In a press briefing that quickly resembled to a campaign rally, Michel Martelly said "The message that I want to share with the people of Haiti today is a message of unity to rebuild the country for a well being of the people who are tired of a system that has never been proven [...] we will open the country to the world, we will promote the commercial exchanges and work to the gradual implementation of a social housing project" as promised the candidate, recalling that "the country's reconstruction will be done with the participation of all Haitians" affirming that he will be President of everyone, not just those of his supporters. He also expressed willingness to make alliances in the transparent, with people attached to the progress of the country. Skilled communicator, he has not forgotten to have a special thought to the police institution whose several officers were killed in the exercise of their function.

Jude Célestin "INITE" :
In the absence of public reactions of the candidate Jude Célestin following his exclusion from the second round, it's the Sen. Joseph Lambert, national coordinator of the party which reacts "INITE accept the results" he declared "We must say clearly to our supporters that in a democracy it is necessary to accept the defeat the same way that a victory should be celebrated, our supporters are invited to stay calm and accept the results of the CEP, the only national institution empowered to proclaim the election results"

Jude Célestin excluded, the INITE platform could be the big winner of these elections by taking control of both houses (Senate and Deputies) with all the consequences that implies for the new President. The platform which already had 11 representatives in the Senate, on the 4 Senators elected in the first round 3 are for INITE, and 3 other senators are in a favourable situation in the South department (Fritz Carlos Lebon vs former deputy David Génesté), in the NorthEast department (Jean-Baptiste Bien-Aimé vs Jean Gérald) and in the department of the Center with François Bazelais. At the level of the deputation 11 of the 20 deputies elected at the first round are INITE and about forty deputies of INITE are in a favourable situation for the second round.
