Haiti - Social : 5.480 Haitians repatriated to Haiti

The Armed Forces and the Department of Immigration, have repatriated in Haiti since the beginning of this year, 5,480 Haitians in an irregular situation. All these people were returned to Haiti via the border posts of Jimaní, Elías Piña, Dajabón, Santiago Rodríguez and Montecristi. The minister of military institutions, Happy Perez informs that the repatriations of Haitians are made in the respect of all their rights and needs...

The majority of our compatriots were arrested on the roads included in the medical corridor along the border, but also at toll plazas, bus terminals, in bateys of the municipalities of Santo Domingo, Boca Chica, La Caleta, Guerra, San Luis, and on construction sites in Higuey, Bavaro, Punta Cana and other... Arrests have also taken place in the the streets and avenues of various cities, including Santo Domingo, the capital, where women and children were begging for the account of people-trafficking networks.

During these numerous raids and arrests, the military has seized 44 firearms illegally imported, as well as bulletproof vests, contraband goods and more than 40 vehicles (mainly buses) and 58 motorcycles, reported a military source.

These operations were coordinated by the Intelligence Division of the Armed Forces (J-2) led by Major General Ramon Luis Payan Areche, with the participation of immigration inspectors and depending on the nature of operations by members of the Intelligence agencies of the Army (G-2), of the Navy (M-2), the Dominican Air Force (ADF-A-2) and the specialized body in charge of security of the land borders (CESFRONT).

An important military monitoring device at the border, was established in December 2010 by the Dominican authorities to fight against illegal Haitian immigration, which would has increased by 500,000 people (according to the authorities) since the earthquake of January 2010 and to prevent the spread of cholera in the Dominican Republic where hundreds of imported cases of this disease have been detected in recent months.

The Dominican Republic estimated to over 1 million, the number of our countrymen living illegally on its territory.
