Thursday at his official residence in Musseau, Prime Minister Jean-Henry Céant accompanied by several Ministers, held a working session with Stefano Manservisi, the Director General of International Cooperation and Development of the European Union.

This session was an opportunity to review the joint efforts of the Government of Haiti and the European Union for the institutional strengthening of the Haitian State. In particular, there was talk of additional budget support and the confirmation of €35 million (nearly €3 billion Gourdes) to be disbursed in 2019.

Recall that out of the 100 million euros promised https://www.haitilibre.com/en/news-24816-haiti-economy-2-3-billion-gourdes-budget-support-of-the-european-union.html , 30 million were already granted last July, 35 million will be disbursed in 2019 and 35 million in 2020.

Due to the current socio-economic problems, the Government in this working session negotiated a €50 million reorientation towards the financing of the food security program for the most vulnerable segments of the population.

Céant underlined that "[...] this budgetary support from our European partners is an expression of their relative confidence in our ability to implement structural reforms in order to face the current problems, continue the fight against corruption, tax evasion and smuggling and, on the other hand, allow a better distribution of available resources and a reallocation of resources to the social sectors [...]"

"We also looked at how the consolidation of the State, intended by the program of President Jovenel Moïse and carried out by the Prime Minister, is implemented in terms of macroeconomic framework. We have obviously observed with great interest the budget that will be submitted for approval [...] In concrete terms, we have confirmed our commitment to fully implement the €100 million budget support. We are currently studying, and we have studied together how we can increase it especially in the direction of social spending, especially in the education sector [...]" said Stefano Manservisi.
