Haiti - Politic : The motion to impeach the President will be submitted before the ratification of the Government
Tuesday, Gary Bodeau, the Speaker of the Chamber of Deputies said that the motion for indictment of President Jovenel Moïse for high treason, will be placed on the agenda of the first plenary session of the lower house, stating that this plenary session will take place BEFORE the presentation of the general policy statement of the new Prime Minister Fritz William Michel https://www.haitilibre.com/en/news-28308-haiti-flash-jovenel-moise-appoints-his-4th-prime-minister.html , a condition demanded by the radical opposition (no date was however mentioned).

On June 21, a group of 21 opposition MPs came from three blocs: the "Alliance of Parliamentarians for Renewal" (APR) (formerly known as APH) and the Bloc "Entente des Parlementaires pour une Alternative". National "(EPAN) and opposition "GPERP, OPL and Allies" had formally made the request to the House Bureau https://www.haitilibre.com/en/news-27966-haiti-flash-21-deputies-demand-the-indictment-for-high-treason-of-president-moise.html

Although the ratification of this motion is unlikely to succeed, since according to the Constitution, it requires the vote of 2/3 of the Chamber of Deputies (the majority, let us remember it is acquired from President Moïse) to implement accusation the Head of State, as stipulated in the Constitution in Article 186 "The Chamber of Deputies, by a two-thirds majority of its members pronounces the indictment

(a) the President of the Republic for the crime of high treason or any other crime or offense committed in the exercise of his functions;
[...]"

However, the rejection of this motion is likely to fuel the socio-political crisis in the country and may prolong the ratification of the new government, which would delay the implementation of emergency measures to overcome the economic crisis that is going through. Haiti.

Moreover, opposition Deputy Abel Descollines (LAVNI Lavalas trend) asserts that some personalities of the new ministerial cabinet (without naming them), because of their relations with former leaders cited in the audit reports on the use PetroCaribe funds, are obstacles to holding the PetroCaribe trial. He also reminded that before the ratification of the new Government, the motion to indict President Moïse should be placed on the agenda of the first plenary session of the legislative year and put to the vote of the Lower House.
