Haiti - Politic : Official ceremony of installation of the General Staff of the Army

Tuesday at the National Palace, President Jovenel Moïse, accompanied by his wife Martine and Prime Minister Jack Guy Lafontant, in the presence of, among others, the Presidents of the Senate and the Chamber of Deputies, Joseph Lambert and Gary Bodeau, Minister of Defense, Hervé Denis, President of the Court of Cassation, Me Jules Cantave, Vice-President of the Superior Council of the Judiciary, Wendelle T. Coq, Presidents of Defense Committees in the Senate and the Lower House, respectively Senator Ralph Fethière and Deputy Pierre Bellange, of Director General of the Haitian National Police Michel-Ange Gédéon, of the President of the Provisional Electoral Council, Léopold Berlanger and several members of the government, proceeded to the official presentation and installation of the members of the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Haiti (FAd'H).

Composed of Lieutenant-General and Acting Chief Commander, Jodel Lesagem, and 6 members : Brigade General Sadrac Saintil : Chief of General Staff, Colonel Jonas Jean : Inspector General, Colonel Jean-Robert Gabriel : Assistant Chief of Staff G1/G3, Colonel Derby Guerrier : Assistant Chief of Staff G2/G4, Colonel Joseph Jacques Thomas : Secretary of the General Staff and Colonel Fontane Beaubien : Member of the Staff of the Commander-in-Chief, the High Staff will coordinate the activities of the FAd'H so that the institution can fully play its role of guaranteeing the security and integrity of the national territory.

The Head of State considered that this was the last stage of a long process that began on February 7, 2012 with the request made to the Organization of American States (OAS) by former President Michel Joseph Martelly, on a request for training for Haitian executives in the field of security and defense at the Inter-American Defense College "The time was long, but we reached the end of the road. The military establishment, demobilized, but inscribed in letters of gold in the spirit and the letter of our mother-law, is reborn, ready to serve the nation, its people, its sisters and brothers, struggling with a long and difficult fight for its redefinition and its entry into the concert of emerging economies and societies."

Then, the Head of State announced that with the establishment of the military institution, his administration intends to give the nation, alongside the Haitian National Police, the means to guarantee its security and allow the country to contribute to regional and international security. He pointed out that the FAd'H recovery was not an emotional or partisan act to satisfy a political chapel but a patriotic and inclusive state act.

In his address to the members of the General Staff he said "I would like to congratulate each of you for your courage, selflessness and sense of sacrifice. Normally, you would be enjoying a peaceful retirement but here are cases of force majeure decide otherwise. I want to express my deepest gratitude to you and the people of Haiti. The task ahead is overwhelming. You will not have a break. You have the responsibility to build this school of citizenship, patriotism and surpassing oneself. You will emphasize on the training and as vectors of discipline."
