Haiti - FLASH : Resignations of 4 of the 7 members of the Presidential Commission of Dialogue

Wednesday, 8 days after being appointed on the Presidential Commission of Dialogue https://www.haitilibre.com/en/news-28959-haiti-politic-president-moise-names-7-mediators-for-a-way-out-of-crisis.html , 4 of 7 members : Evans Paul (former Prime Minister); Josué Pierre-Louis (General Coordinator of the Office of Management and Human Resources); Jean Rodolphe Joazile (former President of the Parliament and former Minister of Defense) and Sainphor Liné Balthazar (President of the ruling Tet Kale party) resigned in a co-signed letter adressed Lyonel Valbrun, the Secretary General of the Presidency.

"[...] Following the statements of the President of the Republic at the press conference held on October 15, 2019, at the National Palace https://www.haitilibre.com/en/news-29015-haiti-flash-the-power-is-the-people-dixit-jovenel-moise.html which have invalidated the work already undertaken by the committee responsible for leading the discussions for a concerted solution to end the crisis, we, the undersigned, regret to inform you that we decided to withdraw from this committee," one reads in this correspondence.

Evans Paul believes that the Head of State, saying that he will not resign leaves no room for maneuver to the Commission, recalling that he said that everything should be on the table, including the mandate of the President.

A reason more or less satisfactory knowing that Jovenel Moïse had actually implied that he was ready to put the rest of his mandate on the negotiating table but not the conditions of the opposition (unconditional resignation) but in the context of anticipated democratic elections (which the opposition rejects) and which he simply reiterated in his press conference, which had already been mentioned by the businessman Jean Gabriel Fortuné, Mayor resigned from Les Cayes in early October https://www.haitilibre.com/en/news-28930-haiti-flash-jovenel-moise-ready-to-review-his-mandate-but-on-his-terms.html

A position that Evans Paul and his colleagues could hardly ignore.
