Haiti - FLASH : The State suspends all payments to private electricity companies
Wednesday as part of its desire to renegotiate contracts for electricity by will or by constraint of law https://www.haitilibre.com/en/news-29035-haiti-politic-the-government-takes-measures-to-improve-the-distribution-of-electricity.html the Government has undertaken a showdown with the 3 main private electricity suppliers in Haiti: Sogener S.A., E-Power S.A. and Haytrac

Given the lack of success so far of its pressure on these 3 companies, the Government raises the tone and made adopt Wednesday in the Council of Ministers several new measures to harden its position and try to achieve its ends...

1- The Ministry of Economy and Finance is instructed to suspend payments of any value in connection with the execution of electric power contracts signed between the Haitian State and the firms Sogener S.A., E-Power S.A. and Haytrac ;

2- The Ministry of Economy and Finance is instructed to resolve any disputes that may arise with the actors of the sector of the economy during the whole process;

3- The Ministry of Public Works, is instructed to proceed to the transfer to the Electricity of Haiti (EDH) of all power plants belonging to the State;

4- The Ministry of Justice and Public Security is instructed to proceed with the securing of all power plants in the country;

5- The Ministry of Justice and the Ministry of Economy and Finance are instructed, each in his own regard, to obtain the setting in motion of the public action against all those who are guilty of squandering public funds under these contracts, the restitution of the amounts overcharged to the State and the repair of any damage caused to the State in connection with the execution of the electricity supply contracts concluded between the State and the Sogener companies S.A., E-Power S.A. and Haytrac.
