Haiti - DR : 9,544 Haitians deported or turned back in October

The Directorate General of Migration (DGM) indicates in its report of October 2019 that following investigations of location of the Dominican intelligence services (more than 18,000 agents on the territory), associated with the denunciations of the population, dozens of migration control operations of Haitians suspected of living illegally in the Dominican Republic, were conducted in various provinces of the country that allowed the deportation of 7,662 Haitians in irregular migration situation. In addition, 1,882 Haitians who tried to enter Dominican territory illegally were turned back on the Dominican border.

The DGM points out that several foreign nationals from the United States, Haiti, Puerto Rico, Russia and Venezuela have been repatriated in coordination with the embassies of their respective countries.

A slight increase in deportations compared to September where 6,785 Haitians had been deported against 7.662 for October (+ 12.9%) while the number of Haitians trying to illegally entered the territory and returned to the border is down by -15%. A decline attributed to multiple military reinforcements at the border and the massive use of technological means of surveillance 24/24.

We can only note that it is becoming more and more difficult for our compatriots to live illegally in the neighboring Republic, particularly because of biometric control, but it is also increasingly difficult to enter the neighboring territory illegally while before the border surveillance system was strengthened (men, means and technology), the rate of Haitians sent back to the border was 300% higher.

Regarding migratory movements along the land border, the DGM informs that during the month of October 2019, 15,379 legal entries were recorded along the border, mainly through the official border crossings of Dajabón and Jimaní, where the flow of visitors is the highest.

Since June 2015 estimated that 440,000 Haitians were deported, repressed or to a very small extent returned voluntarily to Haiti.
