Friday March 20, 2020, the number of people infected worldwide by the Covid-19 coronavirus since the start of the epidemic rose to 245,484 (laboratory confirmed cases, official source) up 26,057 cases (+ 11.88%) compared to yesterday : hhttps://www.haitilibre.com/en/news-30307-haiti-covid-19-daily-bulletin-march-19-2020.html (0 new local cases in China but 11 more imported cases 71,266 people recovered (87.71%).

Since the start of the epidemic, 86,035 people have been cured of Covid-19 worldwide (+ 2.24%), 1.882 more than yesterday.

The number of confirmed infected people in the world is currently 149,418 (+ 18.28%) or 23,090 more than yesterday.

Since the start of the epidemic, 10,031 people have died of Covid-19 worldwide (+ 12.13%), 1.085 more than yesterday (8.946).

Since the start of the epidemic outside China 164,234 cases (+ 18.78%) have been confirmed, 25,961 cases more than yesterday in a total of 163 countries.

6,778 deaths (+ 18.97%) were reported outside China, 1,081 more than yesterday.

14,250 active confirmed cases (+ 55.58%) compared to yesterday, ie 5,091 more cases. 2 confirmed cases, declared state of health emergency

Quarantine :
"The quarantine will be mainly residential at the current stage of the evolution of the epidemic," said the Minister of Public Health.

Trump announces possible treatment of Covid-19 :
President Donald Trump announced on Thursday that the United States would use a treatment for Covid-19 containing chloroquine, an anti-malarial drug which showed encouraging preliminary results, affirming during a press conference at the White House "We will be able to make this medicine available almost immediately [...] It is very exciting. Consulate of Haiti in Miami closes its doors :
For the same reason as the Consulate of N.Y. The Consulate General of the Republic of Haiti in Miami will be closed until further notice. DR strengthens its border :
With the announcement of 2 confirmed cases of Covid-19, the Minister of Defense, General Rubén Darío Paulino Sem, within the framework of the High Level Commission for the prevention and control of coronavirus, instructed the Major General Estanislao Gonell Regalado, performing border strengthening. Reinforcements which include the dispatch of 600 soldiers from the special forces of commando battalions and hunters to increase the operational capacity of infantry brigades in the border area and prevent any illegal entry into Dominican territory. Additional helicopters and more all-terrain vehicles (Buggys) will be deployed. At the same time, the coastal border areas have been reinforced by Dominican Navy units.

Ratified national emergency :

Cases of Covid-19 double every 4 days :
10,488 active cases of Covid-19 coronavirus have been confirmed (1,688 more than the day before) since the first case declared on French territory and 371 deaths. 4,761 cases are hospitalized and more than 1,000 infected people are in intensive care. Jérôme Salomon, Director General of Health, believes that "The cases of contamination double every four days [...] the epidemic is large and spreading, with rapid and intense viral circulation."

Tips :
Basic advice protect yourself and avoid the spread of Covid-19 as much as possible, in case of introduction in Haiti :

  • Always cough or sneeze into your sleeves or elbow, never on the other person's face or in your hands;
  • Use tissues to wipe your hands or face and then throw them in the trash and then wash your hands;
  • Wash your hands frequently with soap or alcoholic water. You can also use a "sanitizer";
  • Avoid close contact with someone with flu-like illness and invite them to seek treatment;
  • Avoid contact with vulnerable people if you are sick;
  • Avoid greetings like handshakes and kisses;
  • Avoid touching your nose, eyes and mouth;
  • Avoid large gatherings as much as possible;
