GLOBAL SITUATION :
Wednesday, March 25, 2020, the number of people infected worldwide with the coronavirus Covid-19 since the start of the epidemic amount to 425,493 (laboratory confirmed cases, official source) an increase of 41,549 cases (+ 10.8%) compared to the previous day : https://www.haitilibre.com/en/news-30353-haiti-covid-19-daily-bulletin-march-24-2020.html

Since the start of the epidemic 109,191 people have been cured of Covid-19 worldwide (+ 7.1%), 7,280 more than yesterday.

The number of people infected worldwide (active cases) is currently 297,339 (+ 12.09%) or 32,073 more than yesterday.

Since the start of the epidemic 18,963 people have died of Covid-19 worldwide (+ 13.1%), 2.196 more than yesterday.

Since the start of the epidemic outside China 343,832 cases have been confirmed (+ 13.71%), in 170 countries or 41,446 cases more than yesterday.

15,835 deaths (+ 17.42%) were reported outside China, 2.399 more deaths than yesterday.

HAITI :
7th confirmed case :

Only 125 intensive care beds in Haiti :
According to a study by the "Research and Education consortium for Acute Care in Haiti (REACH)" published in June 2019) Haiti only has 124 intensive care beds to receive the 5% of Covid-19 cases that are likely to end up in a critical condition. Haiti has fewer than 100 mechanical respirators in case of respiratory distress and a lack of oxygen cylinders. Of the 124 intensive care beds, only 30 met the level 1 criteria (lowest intensity of care) and none of the others met the level 2 criteria (vital organ failure)...

UNITED STATES :
Most contaminated country in the world :
The United States became this Wednesday morning, the first country in the world with the most confirmed cases of Covid-19 54,069 cases, just ahead of Italy 54,030 cases in the top 5 of the most contaminated countries.

Agreement on the 2,000 billion economic recovery plan :
On Tuesday in Washington, Republicans and Democrats finally agreed on the details of a historic $ 2,000 billion economic stimulus package to fight the recession triggered by the Covid-19 pandemic. The Senate is expected to adopt the text on Wednesday and then the House of Representatives will vote quickly.

Historic progress on Wall Street :
Tuesday Wall Street recorded its largest advance (11%) in a single session since 1933 due to hopes placed in the 2,000 billion dollar stimulus package under discussion in the United States Senate.

DOMINICAN REPUBLIC :
Beginning of community transmission of Covid-19 :
On Tuesday, the Minister of Public Health, Dr Rafael Sánchez Cárdena confirmed the start of community transmission of Covid-19 in the Dominican Republic "You can already talk about the community phase in the country, well that weak, but there is indeed a community transmission "explained the Minister at a press conference. FRANCE :
Epidemiological situation :
1,000 additional Covid-19 cases were hospitalized on Tuesday in Paris hospitals, four times more than on Friday, including 450 in intensive care. Friday, there were only 250 in the 35 Ile-de-France establishments.

10,176 people are hospitalized, including 2,516 in intensive care in serious condition (434 more in one day). 40% of patients are under 60 years old and 60% between 60 and 80 years old. Of the 1,102 people who have died since the start of the epidemic, 85% were over the age of 70.

GENERAL INFORMATION :
Lifetime of Covid-19 on materials :
A preliminary report from the National Institute of Allergy and Infections Diseases (pending validation by the scientific community) shows that it is theoretically possible that Covid-19 can be transmitted from a surface contaminated, even if so far no case has confirmed this mode of transmission. Covid-19 coronavirus can survive: in air : 3 hours, stainless steel: 3 days, cardboard: 24 hours, plastic: 3 days, copper: 4 hours, glass: 5 days, silicone rubber: 5 days, teflon : 5 days, wood: 4 days, ceramic tile: 5 days. Note that surviving does not mean being able to infect.

Tips :
Basic advice protect yourself and avoid the spread of Covid-19 as much as possible, in case of introduction in Haiti :

  • Always cough or sneeze into your sleeves or elbow, never on the other person's face or in your hands;
  • Use tissues to wipe your hands or face and then throw them in the trash and then wash your hands;
  • Wash your hands frequently with soap or alcoholic water. You can also use a "sanitizer";
  • Avoid close contact with someone with flu-like illness and invite them to seek treatment;
  • Avoid contact with vulnerable people if you are sick;
  • Avoid greetings like handshakes and kisses;
  • Avoid touching your nose, eyes and mouth;
  • Avoid large gatherings as much as possible;
