Haiti - Covid-19 : Daily bulletin March 24, 2020
Tuesday March 24, 2020, the number of people infected worldwide by the coronavirus Covid-19 since the beginning of the epidemic amount to 383,944 (laboratory confirmed cases, official source) an increase of 40,523 cases (+ 11.8%) compared to the previous day: https://www.haitilibre.com/en/news-30344-haiti-covid-19-daily-bulletin-march-23-2020.html

Since the start of the epidemic, 101,911 people have been cured of Covid-19 worldwide (+ 3.0%), 3.015 more than yesterday.

The number of people infected worldwide (active cases) is currently 265,266 (+ 15.45%) or 35,506 more than yesterday.

Since the start of the epidemic, 16,767 people have died of Covid-19 worldwide (+ 13.55%), 2,000 more than yesterday.

Since the start of the epidemic outside China 302,386 cases have been confirmed (+ 15.43%), in a total of 167 countries, 40,416 more than yesterday.

13,486 deaths (+ 17.36%) were reported outside of China, that is 1,491 more deaths than yesterday.

A sixth case of Covid-19 confirmed and 104 people in quarantine:

The US mobilizes for Haiti :
Chancellor Claude Joseph has confirmed that the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) is mobilizing to help Haiti in the fight against the spread of Covid-19. He also indicated discussions underway with Cuba for the dispatch of new medical teams and soon a request to India and Serbia for the shipment of drugs and health supplies.

Monday March 23, following the large explosion of new Covid-19 cases, 624 confirmed cases (+ 190%), Prime Minister François Legault ordered the closure of all businesses and all businesses for 3 weeks, except essential services. Almost one million additional unemployed :
New figures show that the increase in unemployment insurance claims due to the Covid-19 is still much higher than previously thought and has reached 930,000 claims in the past week, a record since the program's inception in 1940.

Epidemiological situation :
Rafael Sánchez, the Minister of Health confirmed 40 new cases (+90 the day before) of Covid-19 for a total of 239 active cases while the number of deaths is unchanged (3). He said the largest number of cases were in the National District, Santo Domingo, Santiago and Duarte. There are 270 people who are followed up due to contact with confirmed cases or coming from contaminated countries. 59 are in hospital isolation and 183 in home isolation.

First 3 healings :
Rafael Sánchez, the Minister of Health, has announced that the first three Dominican patients suffering from Covid-19 after returning from a trip abroad, who were receiving treatment at the Ramón de Lara hospital, are cured.


The state of health emergency entered into force Monday in France after having been ratified Sunday by the Parliament.

Epidemiological situation :
Monday, the Minister of Health Olivier Véran announced the death of 186 additional people in just 24 hours. In detail, 8,675 people are hospitalized, or 1,435 more in the space of 24 hours. 2,082 were hospitalized in intensive care in serious condition, and 7,432 were cured and discharged from the hospital "The situation is difficult [...] but we are not giving up hope" declared Minister Véran.

Flights prohibited between the metropolis and the overseas territories :
The movement of passengers by air between the metropolis and the overseas departments and communities (Martinique, Mayotte, Guadeloupe, Guyana, La Réunion, Saint Martin and Saint-Barthélemy) have been restricted since midnight Monday until April 15 , according to a decree published Sunday in the Official Journal. Travel between these islands will also be strictly limited.

Over 30,000 tourists in solitary confinement :
Faced with the Covid-19 pandemic, Prime Minister Manuel Marrero declared that the some 30,000 foreign tourists who are currently on the island on Tuesday (date of entry into force of the partial closure of the borders for a month) are put in isolation "All the tourists still present in the hotels are placed in isolation [...] They can't get out of the hotel until they find a flight home."

Good news from China and for the World :
Authorities will lift travel restrictions in Wuhan (the world's epicenter of Covid-19) and in Hubei province. Residents considered healthy will be able to move freely from April 8

Tips :
Basic advice protect yourself and avoid the spread of Covid-19 as much as possible, in case of introduction in Haiti :

  • Always cough or sneeze into your sleeves or elbow, never on the other person's face or in your hands;
  • Use tissues to wipe your hands or face and then throw them in the trash and then wash your hands;
  • Wash your hands frequently with soap or alcoholic water. You can also use a "sanitizer";
  • Avoid close contact with someone with flu-like illness and invite them to seek treatment;
  • Avoid contact with vulnerable people if you are sick;
  • Avoid greetings like handshakes and kisses;
  • Avoid touching your nose, eyes and mouth;
  • Avoid large gatherings as much as possible;
