Haiti - Environment : The reforestation of the National Park «La Visite» continues
The Foundation Seguin estimates that its reforestation program of the National Park "La Visite" where 300.000 seedlings should be planted, is well underway. Gesner Champagne, President of the Foundation Seguin has assured that the project is well underway. He noted that the most difficult step has already been crossed.

120.000 seedlings have already been planted has informed Richard Cantave, the Public Relations Manager of the Foundation. Mr. Cantave believes that the objective of 150.000 will be achieved at the end of the season. However he stressed that human resources have decreased significantly since the schools are on holiday.

In addition, Junior Cantave, Chief Accountant of the Foundation, told us that this project has cost far more money than expected. Nearly USD$400,000 has been spent at this stage of the project. The parcels to be reforested, had to be fenced [10 km linear metal fences] to make the work more viable. On the other hand, he said that about 15,000 jobs were created thanks to this great tree-planting campaign.

This initiative of the Foundation Seguin, started in April of this year, has envisaged the planting of 300,000 trees in memory of the 300.000 victims of January 12, 2010. About 50 students from schools of some neighborhoods of the capital, assisted by other students of "la Cour Seguin" between 13 and 19 years participated in the achievement of this initiative.

However Richard Cantave deplores the stagnation of the State services, which makes "a little frozen" the acts that would like accomplish the responsibility of the Foundation, thirsting to see Haiti become green.

The National Park "La Visite", one of the most important protected areas of the country, was established in 1983 to protect the flora and prevent deforestation.
