Haiti - FLASH : More than 1000 Haitians could be repatriated every day
"The number of expulsions of Haitian migrants from the USA, Mexico and the Bahamas could soon reach more than 1,000 per day" declared Giuseppe Loprete, Head of Mission of the International Organization for Migration, (IOM - Haiti ).

Mexico and the Bahamas will do as the US, said Jean Négaud Bonheur Delva, Director of the National Migration Office (ONM)

There are an estimated 14,000 illegal migrants in Texas, 28,000 in Mexico, 19,000 in Colombia, 16,000 of whom are stranded in the town of Necocli, in the north awaiting their turn for limited transport by boat to the jungle of the "Darien Gap", one of the most dangerous and impassable regions of Latin America https://www.haitilibre.com/en/news-34874-haiti-mexico-voluntary-return-to-haiti-of-70-haitians.html and more than 1,000 in the Bahamas without taking into account land repatriations from the Dominican Republic (https://www.icihaiti.com/en/news-34000-icihaiti-dominican-republic-more-than-70-000-haitians-returned-to-the-country-in-one-month.html https://www.haitilibre.com/en/news-34635-haiti-dr-178-000-haitians-intercepted-at-the-border.html)

Colombia and Panama agreed last August that 500 migrants could cross per day, but local officials have repeatedly urged to increase the quota, saying it is far too low because the pace with the roughly 1,500 migrants arriving daily in the city.

Erika Mouynes, Panamanian Foreign Minister, estimates that up to 60,000 additional migrants are likely to continue their journey north

Panama's President Laurentino Cortizo told the United Nations General Assembly last week that more than 80,000 irregular migrants have traveled through Panama this year and called for international aid, saying his country is spending its limited budget on support for migrants.

Since the beginning of January 2021, 88,514 migrants have entered Panama through the Darien jungle, according to figures from the National Migration Service, and Panama has gone from 800 migrants in one month (January 2021) to 30,000 in a month (Aug. 2021)

Thursday, September 30, 2021 several United Nations agencies declared that vulnerable Haitian men, women and children who are displaced on the American continent should not be expelled from the countries where they have found refuge.

"The situation is very serious in Haiti at the moment. There are multiple crises. Areas controlled by gangs in the South, three departments affected by the earthquake political instability, less than 1% of the population vaccinated against Covid-19. This is the situation that the migrant finds upon arrival. It's a difficult situation," underlines Giuseppe Loprete, especially since most of these people left Haiti 5 years ago and more, and some have lost links with their families in Haiti or have no one in the country.
