Haiti - FLASH : Assessment of the horror of gang wars  (Investigation)
The clash between the "400 Mawozo" and "Chen Mechant" gangs for control of northern access to the capital between April 24 and May 6 forced the displacement of 16,828 people from 29 neighborhoods affected by generalized violence and 13 by targeted violence according to the preliminary report of the Civil Protection

52% of IDPs who have been located are women or girls and 44% of IDPs who have been located are under the age of 18

12 new spontaneous displacement sites have been identified, housing around 2,700 people.

People were murdered or wounded by bullets, or mutilated with machetes, axes or knives;
People were charred inside their burned homes;
People were charred in the streets, with tires;
Women and girls were victims of repeated gang rapes;

At least 48 schools, 18 medical centers and 16 markets were closed in the neighborhoods assessed.

According to the first data from the investigation report of the National Network for the Defense of Human Rights (RNDDH) from April 24 to May 6, 2022, many abuses were recorded:

At least 141 civilians were murdered as well as 7 bandits from the "Chen Mechan" gang executed by their leader, Claudy Celestin...

Partial assessment of human and material losses :

Butte Boyer and Marécage : (area located between Butte Boyer and Mapou)
At least 48 people were murdered. The men of "400 Mawozo" broke into houses, forcibly pulled people found there and murdered them in the street. They killed other people inside the houses before setting them on fire. In addition, 17 young women who were surprised by the 400 Mawozo gang in a motel in Nan Galèt, Butte Boyer Prolongé area, were murdered before being thrown into water wells and latrines.

30 houses and 25 vehicles were burned in Butte Boyer and Marécage.

Corridor Djo and Santo 2 :
At least 47 people were murdered. 17 corpses including that of a baby were charred and 30 others were buried in mass graves dug by the men of "Chen Mechan".

At least 51 houses and 32 vehicles were burned between Corridor Djo and Santo 2.

Carrefour Marassa : at least 23 people were killed;

Cité Ti Baka : (between Butte Boyer and Lakou Mapou) at least 15 people were murdered by members of the "400 Mawozo" gang, who killed everyone they met and then burned the bodies on the spot. Several were beheaded. Others were thrown into wells and latrines.

Cité Doudoune : at least 6 people were murdered and then beheaded. The heads were taken away by the bandits;

Lillavois : At least 2 people were killed;

Corpses of numerous murdered victims were also thrown into the Gray River.

At least 81 houses were burned in the attacked areas (30 in Butte Boyer and Marécage and 51 others in Carrefour Djo and Santo)

At least 57 vehicles were set on fire (25 in Butte Boyer and Marécage and 32 between Corridor Djo and Santo 2.‚
