Haiti - Insecurity : DR maintains its reinforcements at the border and is ready to increase them

The new Commander General of the army of the Dominican Republic, (appointed last August 16 by President Abinader) Major General, Carlos Antonio Fernández Onofre, assured that military reinforcements will be maintained throughout the border area, taking into account of the current deterioration of the socio-economic situation in Haiti.
General Fernández Onofre, accompanied by the Deputy Commander of the Army, General Ángel Camacho Ubiera and other senior officers, realized a tour this week to support and supervise the work of the military in the border area and ensure that they did their job well.
He also took the opportunity to visit in Dajabon, the construction works of the first 54km section of the border wall which should be completed in February 2023. A call for tenders for 7 companies has been launched for a second phase of 110km of wall.
He specified that on the instructions of President Luis Abinader and the Minister of Defence, Lieutenant General Carlos Luciano Díaz Morfa, the military force and the reinforcements deployed along the border (nearly 12,000 men in total, less than 20% of the active Dominican armed forces) will be maintained in the face of the situation in Haiti.
He assured that the border was safe and protected, but if the situation called for it and it was necessary to order a greater increase in reinforcements, then the border area would be reinforced with many more men and equipment, stressing that the Dominican army was ready to face any situation coming from Haiti.
