Haiti - FLASH : The construction of the Dominican border wall is progressing rapidly (Video)
Sunday, September 4th, Carlos Díaz Morfa, the Dominican Minister of Defense, regarding the construction of the border wall between the Dominican Republic and Haiti (also called "intelligent" perimeter fence) declared in a press release that "the construction process of the first phase (54 km) started on February 20, 2022 in the Province of Dajabón is progressing at an accelerated pace." Tony Maríñez, project manager confirmed that the workers worked tirelessly every day, from 7:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m., regardless of holidays or non-working days.

Díaz Morfa, who inspected the works with construction engineers, indicated that soon we will see the watchtowers (Mirador), one of which is already almost finished at Pyramid 18 and assured that the steel cyclone trellis had already began to be posed emphasizing that this was the most important work in terms of security ever carried out on the entire border.

The first phase of the 54 kilometer long border fence is progressing on four fronts in the provinces of Independencia, Pedernales, Elías Piña and Dajabón. It will consist of a reinforced concrete wall surmounted by a metal structure crowned by an accordion of barbed metal blades. 19 surveillance and control towers, and 10 access gates for patrol duties. On each side of the wall a road will allow the militares to patrol on both sides. Vehicles heading south will take the road next to the river and those heading north will take the road to the far right of the fence.

In the province of Dajabón they are working from pyramid 17 to 21, and five kilometers of necessary roads have been prepared to transport construction materials. The contractor has already cleared, filled and compacted 800 meters of road, near pyramid number 18. This section is now ready to start the base of the fence and the subsequent placement of the wire mesh.

In Jimaní, province of Independencia, the same process is underway on 830 meters of roads from pyramid number 248 towards the northwest; and in Pedernales and Elías Piña, the installation of two camps has already begun, which will serve as support for the construction of the fence in these provinces.

Once this first phase is completed, the second phase, 110 km long in 9 sections, will begin (the calls for tenders have already been launched, 3 companies will be selected for this 2nd phase).

The 160 km of the fence will include 170 watchtowers and checkpoints, in addition to some 71 controlled access gates. The fence will be doubled in the most critical areas

Once the 2 phases have been completed, the border wall will be equipped with many electronic devices, among others: video surveillance cameras, ground radars, motion detectors as well as drones equipped with cameras for day and night vision...
