Haiti - UN : «Barbecue» at the top of a blacklist, vote of the resolution pending
The Security Council of the United Nations should vote this Wednesday, October 19 in the afternoon, one of the two resolutions drafted by the United States and Mexico concerning the sanctions, which quotes only Jimmy Cherizier alias "Barbecue" , a former police officer who leads the most powerful coalition of gangs in Haiti known as the "G9 Family and Allies" as the target of a travel ban, asset freeze and arms embargo.

However, this resolution provides for the establishment of a committee of the Security Council to designate other Haitians and groups [oligarchs, political elites, high-level corrupt politicians, American citizens and others...] who threaten the peace, security or stability of Haiti and put them on an international sanctions blacklist.

Chérizier and his coalition of gangs have been blocking the free flow of fuel from the Varreux oil terminal for more than a month, "[...] His actions have directly contributed to the economic paralysis and humanitarian crisis in Haiti [...] he engaged in acts that threaten the peace, security, and stability of Haiti and has planned, directed, or committed acts that constitute serious human rights abuses," the resolution states.

Let's recall that the second resolution drafted by the United States and Mexico concerns the armed intervention force urgently requested by Haiti to support the National Police of Haiti (PNH) and put an end to gang violence and restore the order in the country. Resolution which came up against the reservations of China and Russia on Monday, October 17 and which is the subject of intense discussions in order to eliminate the objections and pass to the vote. https://www.haitilibre.com/en/news-37915-haiti-un-no-resolution-yet-adopted-the-security-council-divided.html

Last Minute : According to the Miami Herald, the United States has said it does not want to lead the armed intervention mission in Haiti. Canada also reportedly expressed similar concerns. In addition, several members of the Security Council would have privately informed the United States that they were waiting to see the details of the proposed mission before voting on this resolution... Let's remember that for a resolution to be adopted by the Security Council, it requires a vote of at least 9 votes in favor and no veto.
